There are many different techniques to determine the version of Windows XP/2000, using the Windows component called "WinVer" is an easiest one. However, this component is only available on Windows 2000 or later (including Windows XP). If you need the information for an earlier version of Windows, see the related article at the bottom of this page.
If you just want to find out which Windows you have in general, not looking for deep details, you might want to check your "System Properties" (Right-click on "My Computer" on your desktop and select "Properties".
Otherwise, click on "Start" >> "Run" then type "winver" and press "Enter"
You'll see the screen of "WinVer" similar to the following:
- Windows Family: Windows XP Professional
- Windows Version: 5.1 (build 2600)
- Service Pack: 2
